If you want to start a business in Ayurvedic products without setting up your own factory, a PCD franchise is one of the most common routes. Here is how the model works and what to look for before you commit.

What PCD means

PCD stands for Propaganda Cum Distribution. A company gives you the right to market and distribute its products in an agreed area. You buy stock from the company and sell it to retailers, clinics and practitioners in your territory.

What the company usually provides

  • A ready range of products under its brand
  • Rights to sell in a defined area
  • Promotional material such as product literature and visual aids
  • Product information so you can explain the range with confidence

What you are responsible for

You handle local sales: building relationships, taking orders and managing your own stock and payments. Your income depends on the margin between your purchase price and your selling price, and on how well you cover your area.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • Which licences and certifications does the company hold?
  • Is the territory exclusive, and how is that written down?
  • What is the minimum order, and how quickly is stock dispatched?
  • What support will you get after the first order?
